Kathy Woolley of Cottonwood, CA, USA
| I have always had a love of the arts. I still remember winning a 1st grade drawing contest for my likeness of Abe Lincoln. In 1983 after the birth of my daughter I decided to take a few tole painting classes. While this was not what I had always longed to do, it did fill the need to work with paint. I believe that the stroke work a tole artist does has helped me extensively with my brush control and attention to the smallest details. I feel this is most important for my style of painting. In 1993 after a life altering horseback riding accident, I decided that it was time to get serious with my art. I am a true stay at home Mother of two, and kitchen table artist.. I paint at my Grandmother's old kitchen table. A northern California native, I have always been a dog lover and enjoy painting anything with an animal or western theme. Watercolor is the medium which I like best. I have dabbled in gouache, acrylics, and some oils. I prefer the cleanliness of watercolors. I have entered one art competition at the Shata District Fair and received a Best of Show in 1995. I went on to compete at the California State Fair and received an Award of Merit for my gouache painting "In the Garden". I also do commission pet portraits!
