| Born in the hills of
Tennessee, raised amongst the trees, second of nine children, I had the
whole world as my playground. We were never told how far we could
go or when to come home, just so we had our work done and Mama knew
which general direction we were headed.
We weren't allowed pets as they are too much - our fare was whatever Mama raised in the garden or Daddy shot for supper when he came home. We did have a fine menagerie of wild pets each spring however; baby birds, an occasional squirrel, and once a little fox! My parents taught me how to work hard and my great love of nature. At a young age I started trying to draw things I'd see, and even sold my first 'art' in the 2nd grade. Now I've finally built my ultimate tree house - my studio in the woods! I've studied art seriously for several years with some of the great artists of our time, including the world's great sporting dog artist, Robert K. Abbett, and leading wildlife artist, John Seerey-Lester. I've acquired a few honors along the way, including a Ducks Unlimited sponsor print, a cover on Retriever Journal, as well as Pointing Dog Journal, and recently being chosen as artist for the National Vizsla Assn. I thank God for my fierce and wonderful childhood. He did His part, and now I'm doing mine. Helen Lenore Nash specializes in portraits of sporting dogs in
their habitat. |
