Alyson Champ was born in Ormstown, Quebec, 30 km southwest of Montreal, in 1967. |
She began to draw and paint as a child, but her first formal
artistic
training was in music, not visual art. After ten years of instruction in
classical violin, Alyson went on to study Fine Arts at Vanier College, The
Saidye Bronfman Center, and at Concordia University, all in Montreal.
From 1989 - 1993, Alyson took a break from painting to complete an Honors
Degree in Philosophy, also at Concordia, and had the mixed blessing of
graduating first in her class. This event, along with being ranked first in
Provincial graduate scholarships competition, and receiving full funding
for a Master's degree, presented Alyson with a dilemma. Should she choose
an academic career or an artistic one? It was a decision which pitted her
head against her heart. In 1994, she opted to follow her heart and has
never had a moment's regret.

in equine themes. She has exhibited in solo and group shows in Canada and
the U.S. in such places as the Roxboro Public Library, Roxboro, Que., The
SUNY Art Museum in Plattsburgh, NY, The McCord Museum in Montreal, and at
the Red Mile Club House in Lexington , Ky. Her work is currently held in
private collections in North America and Europe.

Alyson divides her time between painting, teaching music, teaching drawing,
